Carbon Clouds, artist book, 2018, oil on paper, 1560 x 297mm

In this age of the Anthropocene, humankind has impacted the planet irrevocably and in unprecedented ways. Despite the threats of climate change, our carbon emissions continue to rise. Inspired by the cloud studies of John Constable, I have used cloudscapes as the basis for these compositions and included signs of the fossil fuel power industry. Clouds sometimes look beautiful and sublime, yet other times they are ominous and threatening. They are a metaphor for our future. As our climate changes due to human activity, we need to ask how much more pollution can our planet bear?
